This is a little something I wrote for the beloved movie "Galaxy Quest", starring Alan Rickman (w00t, baby!) and Tim Allen.
Enjoy!
"I swear, if they make me say that stupid line one more time, I will shoot someone." She rolled her eyes and he saw her in his mirror. "You think I'm joking?" he asked, turning to her. "I'm deathly serious. If I say it one more time, I will shoot someone. Preferably Jason," he added, returning to his make-up.
She smiled to herself as she applied her mascara and he put on his cap.
"And whose bloody idea was it that I be Mr. Fish Boy? Do they realise how long it takes to put this on? Especially without five make-up artists doing it for me. I say he should do it at least once."
She shook her head as the door to the dressing room opened once more.
"Hey, guys," greeted Fred. "How you doing?"
"Miserable as always, but that's to be expected," replied Alex. He sighed. "He's going to be late again, I just know it. Blasted...get in there!" he muttered as he tried to push his hair under the head piece.
Gwen rolled her eyes as she got up to help him. "Here, let me." She picked up the spare hairs and brushed them back and under the cap, dropping the plastic covering over them before moving to his other side. When she'd finished, she stood up straight again. "All better?"
"Unfortunately, yes," he answered. She smiled, knowing he had enjoyed the view, and she returned to her own mirror as her co-star then began applying his purple shadow.
"Well, we just do what we can..." Fred murmured as he touched up for the lights. "As for Jason, you're probably right."
"Of course I am," Alex replied bitterly. "I'm always right. Because he's always late. If he could do me the pleasure of being only half an hour late one of these days, I might not hate him so much."
Gwen laughed lightly as the back door opened once more, this time letting in Tommy.
"Mornin', folks." He set himself down on the couch and joined Fred in the wait for a mirror. "How was your week?"
"Dreadful. I had this old maid come up to me yesterday and pinch my bum. Then she asked if she could get an autograph of me for her daughter. I was disgusted,"Alex answered.
Tommy laughed. "Did you give it to her?"
"Hell no. I told her she had the wrong man and she winked at me."
Fred shook his head with a smile. "You've got a strange generation, Alex."
Alex glared at Fred's reflection in his mirror, but the "mechanic's" smirk didn't disappear.
"Alright, I'm done," Gwen announced, bouncing her hair once more as she stood up. Fred got up and sat himself before the mirror as Gwen moved toward Alex and Tommy gave a sigh.
"Don't we at least get coffee or something?" Tommy asked.
"It's coming," Alex answered as he added on some powder.
"You know, not a lot of women like a man who spends more time in front of the mirror than they do," Gwen said, touching the back of chair.
He looked up at her. "True, but how many men have to put a cap of frills and fins on their head everyday?"
She grinned and patted him on the shoulder before getting a seat on the couch. Not too long after, an assistant came in for coffee orders.
"Get me a tall cappuccino," Alex murmured thoughtfully. "Irish creme...and I don't mean creamer."
The assistant took a note. "Ms. DiMarco?"
"Half-and-half. French Vanilla creamer, please."
"I'll take it black," Fred answered from his mirror.
"Actually, I'll take a hot cocoa. I'm not one for coffee," said Tommy. The assistant jotted this down and left the room with an excited smile and a promise that their orders would be there shortly. After he was gone, Alex let out a sigh.
"He's going to want me to say it."
Tommy rolled his eyes and Fred smiled while Gwen got up with a groan.
"He is not," she said as she stood behind him.
"He is too," Alex argued. "Did you see how he looked at me? I'm frankly surprised he didn't ask as soon as he came in."
She sighed and Fred stood up.
"Done." Tommy switched places with him and Fred picked up the day's paper.
"Hey Alex, did you do this morning's puzzle yet?" he asked.
"No, I haven't. I was wallowing in self-pity again and didn't feel like it. Actually, I still have yet to do my weekly vaccuming from three weeks ago."
Gwen smiled and shook her head as Fred grinned, finding the puzzle. He sat back and folded the extra paper away as he set to work.
Gwen woke up with a start as a light bell rang through her quarters and the doors to her bedroom opened with a light whoosh and in them was none other than
"Alex?"
"Gwen, is there any chance whatsoever that you would be so kind as to lend me a couch or something? They've got me sleeping in a bloody fish tank."
"A fish tank...?" she asked, squinting at him in the dark.
"You see these?" he cried, pointing at his fins. "They make everyone think I'm a bloody fish. Did you see what they were feeding me? I wasn't going to eat that, so now I'm starving! And I'm so bloody tired...please tell me you can help?"
Gwen didn't know what to say as she slipped out her bed. She was relieved, however, that she'd thought to sleep in pajamas this evening, because it might've been rather embarassing if she hadn't.
"Well, I don't know about a couch..." she muttered, moving past him into the main opening where a desk was propped against the wall, but there was no couch. "But I think there's something in here."
She stepped up to a bar that had some sort of microwave built into the side of it, but there were no buttons. Gwen tapped the screen and it lit up and a voice - that of Kaliarli, or whatever her name was - asked, "Is there anything I can get for you, Lieutenant?"
"Ah, yes, can you get me a large brandy and a..." She looked at Alex, who shook his head.
"I really don't care," he whispered.
"A really big brandy, mind you, and a pizza, please. Uh, pepperoni."
"As you wish, Lieutenant."
There was a whizzing sound in the mircrowave and then a light bing! that announced that her meal was done. She opened it and they both looked in to find a small pepperoni pizza and a huge jug of brandy. Alex let out a relieved breath as he took the brandy and hugged it gratefully before corking it open taking a swig. He let out a heavenly sigh as he placed it on the counter and Gwen took out the pizza and placed it before him.
"Oh, bless you, Gwen..." He took a slice and took a bite, moaning beside himself in pure delight. "Oh...this is the best pizza I've had in my entire life..." He took another and she watched him, amused, as he devoured the slice of pizza like a piece of heaven.
"Gwen, despite the misunderstandings, they have made the best pizza in the universe...you must try some..." He snarfed down another piece himself, uncaring for manners, as Gwen chose one for herself.
It was truly, in a word, divine...the cheese was still warm and gooey, but not greasy, and the crust was flaky, but not falling apart and the pepperoni...they weren't too big, they were nice and crisp and it was just so good...
"God, this is the best pizza ever. Mm! No, I mean, seriously! This is really good!"
"I take it all back. These Thermians are wonderful people. Even if this isn't really made from cows and pigs and whatever else is in a pizza, this is the greatest I've ever had. It's perfect..." He licked his fingers and lips before taking a swig of the brandy and he gave another contended sigh. "Thanks, Gwen. I really needed that."
"Yeah, that was really good..." She sucked the last bit of cheese from under her fingernail and looked up at him, smiling pleasantly to himself as sleep lowered his eyelids as he doctored his drink.
"But uh...I don't really have a couch," she repeated, having solved only one of his problems. "All I have is my bed."
He looked up at her at that and they shared a knowing look.
"Well..." He looked over at the entrance of her bedroom, open still, and at the bed inside. "As inviting as it is, I doubt something like that can be kept quiet."
"Yeah..." She smirked. "But who can beat 'I've made love in space?'"
He grinned. "Maybe later. Tonight, however..." He sighed. "I just want sleep."
Gwen agreed. "I believe we should fit." She smiled. "Maybe in the morning."
Alex laughed. "Well, if you're that eager..."
"Is that a yes, Dane?"
He smirked. "I suppose it is."
Enjoy!
