Chapter One: He arrived at the school in the dark of night, even the moon was covered by the ominous gray clouds that poured down rain soaking everything, including his darkly clothed self. Though being a vampire he wasn’t accompanied with a name like Vlad, or Dracula, he was dubbed Logan Creed. Though his wet black hair hung in his eyes he didn’t take the time to move it out of the way, as if it would take that much time, but he didn’t see the point, for only seconds later it would once again be dripping down his face. Logan could see the mahogany front door now complete with a brass knocker in the shape of a lion that might have been as big as his head. Just like on the letter he received, the words ‘You will not be judged here’ were engraved on a plaque embedded in the stone wall, under the words ‘Woodrow Academy; School for the Gifted.’ He could read this standing halfway down the drive but standing in front of the door was the first time he’d looked up from the stony ground and his knee high leather boots. I’m not going to fit in here, I don’t belong his quick thought before he lifted the lion head knocker and the door opened to the start of his new, and hopefully better, life. 0o.)(.o0 She was sitting in her window seat, the window itself over looking the front grounds, many had told her she was lucky with a view like that, she had to admit she agreed. You could find her almost every night watching the rain, for the nights were constantly raining, or the moon and stars when she could find them. The lights were turned off with the exceptions of the small blinking light of her laptop, charging, and the faint green glow of the digits of the digital clock that hung above the door. Erin Leigh was an angel, complete with wings, minus the halo. She’d been at Woodrow academy for a year, since her wings had shown up suddenly one morning, leaving two rather large holes in her favorite sleep shirt and feathers in her blond hair. She’d received a letter that afternoon, inviting her to a school for gifted people that she accepted gratefully. As Erin stared out the window now, exactly a year since she’d first arrived, she watched a shadowy figure make its way up to the school, head bowed and black trench coat billowing out, eyes flashing as it looked up, just once, no doubt at the brass knocker and gold plaque that caught the eye of every newcomer. She could make out a pale face of a boy just before he stepped inside the school. Suddenly drowsy she looked up at the clock, it read 1:31am, and fell into bed; white feathery wings cushioning her she fell asleep, her mind flooding with questions about the dark newcomer. 0o.)(.o0 Stanton Woodrow III, a descendant of the school’s founder and the headmaster of Woodrow Academy had been expecting the young vampire for two nights now, and was prepared for the light buzz from the speaker on his desk before it came. He pressed the red button with a nimble finger and listened to the words from his secretary. “Logan Creed has arrived sir.” said the well known voice of his secretary, Jenna Bird. “Send him in Jenna.” he replied “Sir, he’s dripping wet.” “It’s alright.” Many of the students that arrived were soaked through and dripping, the leather chair that sat across his desk was well used to being slightly damp. The door clicked and a black clad, dripping wet, pale faced boy entered the room. He closed the door behind him, most of them did, but most of them did not give a small bow before taking their seat. “Logan Creed then?” the boy nodded, his eyes were an unnatural glowing blue. “I’m Professor Woodrow. Welcome.” “Thank you sir.” There was little else to say. Woodrow handed him a manila folder, “Inside is a map, your class schedule, a list of the rules, your room key things along those lines. I believe you’ll be sharing room 166 with Erin Leigh, might be best if you knocked first. Should I have Jenna find you a guide or can you make due with your map?” he seemed like an independent boy. “I should do fine by myself.” Stanton nodded, “If you have any questions or concerns bring them up with me. Good night, and again welcome, Logan Creed, remember you will not be judged here.” the boy made another quick bow and departed out of the same door he came in, leaving a small puddle where he had been sitting. Stanton leaned back in his chair for a moment, then realized something. He hopped out of his seat and opened the door. “Creed!” he called after the boy who stopped and turned around. “Your things. Where are they?” almost every kid had come to the school with luggage, Logan had none. “I don’t have any ‘things’ sir.” it wasn’t meant to sound rude, and it didn’t. “We’ll fix that.” Stanton stated. They both nodded and Logan continued on his way to his room, manila folder in one hand, the other in his pocket.

Chapter Two: Logan knocked lightly on the door and was greeted with silence from the other side which gave him cause to assume that whomever was on the other side was asleep. He slid in the key card and the door clicked open. It seemed that the rain had let up and a small amount of moonlight was shining through the window illuminating the face, and more startling, and wings of Erin Leigh’s peacefully-sleeping frame. He took a moment to take in the room; the wood panel walls on her side were plastered with articles and posters, things that he supposed represented her. Each side of the room was a mirror of the other; there were two beds against the walls, two nightstands next to the beds, two desks and but there were no dressers. On each desk there was a laptop, hers blinking, his not. There was just one bookshelf, on his side, on the opposite side was the door to the bathroom. Logan stepped into the bathroom to examine that as well. The walls were white and the floor was linoleum, there was a bath that doubled as a shower, a pedestal sink with a mirror hanging above it that doubled as a cabinet, a toilet and a small lime green trashcan. There was a white podium looking thing with a large sliver square in the middle that was so abstract he had no idea what it’s function was. The shower curtain was the same lime green that matched the bathmat and rug. Logan closed and locked the door and found there was a lime green towel hanging behind the door, obviously his roommate was very color coordinated. He un-strapped his boots and draped his trench coat over the sink. Turning on the hot water for a shower he proceeded with removing the rest of his wet clothes. *** After twenty minutes of a long hot shower Logan turned off the water and stepped out onto the bath mat, grabbing the towel from its hook behind the door, toweling off his hair and then wrapping it around his waist. A button on the white podium that hadn’t been before was blinking red which could only mean it meant for him to press it, so he did and a holo-screen popped up. The red button he still had his finger on flashed and it took him a moment to figure out it was reading his finger print. “New User authorized, enter name.” a keyboard appeared on the holo-screen . Logan had a surprised look on his face as he pressed the keys and entered his name. “Welcome Logan Creed, I am Bron, your Personal Assistant, or PA if you will.” a surprisingly un computer-esque voice stated. “Nice to meet you Bron.” he said uncertainly to the podium. “Oh the pleasure is all mine sir. May I ask what you’d like to wear today?” The holo-screen flickered to show categories of items to choose from, pajamas, pants, shirts, undergarments, accessories. He clicked pajamas which led him to another set of categories; Pants, Shirts, Shorts, and Tank tops. He clicked pants and found a pair of silky black ones that looked okay so he clicked on them and the silver square in the middle opened up and the pants he was just looking at raised up from somewhere. “Anything else sir?” The PA asked. “Yeah, just one more thing.” the original screen returned, this time he clicked undergarments and came up with boxers and briefs for the categories. He found a pair of boxers that he liked and those too caused the silver square to open and raised up from who-knows-where. “Thanks.” he said to the podium as he put on his clothes. “Of course, though might I recommend a shirt sir? Nights here are quite cold.” “I’ll be alright without .” “Very well, Goodnight Master Creed.” “ ‘Night Bron.” the holo-screen disappeared and he wondered if he’d just been talking to a very humanly computer for real. Basing it on the fact he was now wearing a pair of black silky pants he figured that it had indeed actually happened. He moved the coat to hang over the shower and hung the towel back on the door, leaving his boots where they were he turned off the light and opened the door. Being a vampire he wasn’t tired in the least, but he laid down on his bed and stared up at the ceiling, out the window, and occasionally over at Erin when her wings shuffled and she shifted in her sleep. When the sun began rising into the cloudy sky outside the curtains he’d closed before getting into bed he drifted off to sleep. 0o.)(o0 Erin was awakened by her inner alarm clock. She hopped out of bed and saw the same boy that she’d watched arrive in the bed across from hers, her wings wrapped themselves around her as if protecting her from the boy who, only at this point had she noticed, was quite asleep. He was nestled into the blankets quite comfortably, looking no where near waking up. She crept foreword to get a better look at least at his face. His dark hair fell into his face even as he slept, she thought it made his skin look even lighter than the pale, yet somehow handsome, color it was. Erin was almost leaning over him now when he woke suddenly, saw her and made an amazing jump onto the ceiling and stuck there, glaring down at her. Her wings were wrapped around her again, sometimes she thought they had minds of their own. She was looking up at him, a little startled, “Uh, Hi.” she offered. 0o.)(.o0 He gripped the ceiling, staring down at her, his blue eyes flashing, The only thing that was keeping him from hissing like a large upside down cat was that he knew who she was. “Uh, Hi.” she said from below, Logan watched her eyes scan him up and down. “Hi yourself.” he grumbled, lowering himself back to the bed. “You don’t have to be m-” “Mean, I know. I’m not a morning person. Well while were on that note, I’m not a day person. Therefore I’m not very nice when I wake up with a strange person standing above me.” “Touchy thing aren’t you?” Logan rolled his eyes and changed the topic, “Erin Leigh, right?” “Maybe, who’re you?” “The boogey man.” “Very funny.” “I know, I’m hilarious aren’t I.” “Side-splittingly” their verbal judo was interrupted by the computerized not computer voice of Bron. “Master Logan, Miss Erin, I recommend you get ready soon or you’ll be late for class.” it wasn’t the best excuse but it did stop them from fighting. “I’ll go first, I only take a couple of minutes.” Logan beat Erin to the bathroom and locked the door. “I DO NOT TAKE THAT LONG!OPEN THE DOOR!” she called through the heavy door that separated them. “Just a minute.” he called back completely calm. “WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?” He opened the bathroom door, she’d been beating on it and now their faces were quite close. “I’m a Vampire.” he smiled, showing his long canines and then he was out into the hall by the time she blinked, the manila folder was open and his schedule in his back pocket.

Chapter Three: After their rocky start that morning Erin was very perturbed to find that Logan was in almost every one of her classes, the only time she managed to get away from him were in band, where she played the violin alongside her red haired best friend Charlotte, and lunch. “Cute new boy at twelve o’ clock.” Charlotte nudged her with an elbow. Logan was walking by, dressed in a black long sleeve turtleneck, a pair of jeans and his strappy boots. He was drinking out of a black juice box looking thing with a red straw that she’d never seen in the school before, it had an orange and red V with two lines through it on the front. “He is not cute.” Erin turned in the opposite direction he was going…and slipped. *** In the other direction, Logan had just made a turn at a glint of red that turned out to be someone’s hair; that someone happened to be walking next to Erin, who happened to slip on something. He dropped the black box he was holding an dashed over there before half of the cafeteria could blink. He took the lunch tray out of her hand and caught her by the waist, the highest point the could grab because of her wings. *** She was falling, and then she wasn’t. Something was holding her up, but she couldn’t tell what that was because her eyes were shut tight preparing for the fall. Erin opened her left eye cautiously and once again found Logan’s face inches from her own. On his breath was the faint metallic smell of blood and his tongue was a dark tint of red. I’m a vampire, his words from earlier that morning ran through her head, and she figured out what the black box was full of. Then she realized that the whole cafeteria was staring at her, Charlotte was watching her with an eyebrow raised and Logan had just said something. The world started back up again as she stood on her own two feet, her wings spread out, unknowingly they hit a kid in the head, and helped her with balance. “I asked if you were okay.” Logan repeated. “Fine. Thank you.” she took back her lunch tray and started back foreword, watching where she out her feet; Charlotte fell into step next to her. “What was that all about?” Charlotte asked as they took their seats. “Nothing.” She snapped, then regretted it. “Sorry Charlotte.” “It’s okay, but I’m sensing some pent up anger here.” “He beat me to the bathroom this morning and then its just he’s so I dunno smart aleky.” “Sounds like you.” she pointed out. Erin opened her mouth to tell her to stuff it, but then she realized that Charlotte was right so she just shrugged. Charlotte rolled her eyes because she knew that Erin knew she was right. She looked over her shoulder at the boy, Logan. He’d conjured another black box from somewhere and he was sitting on a tabletop looking completely content being alone. Except he wasn’t by himself for long, a couple of girls approached him and five minutes into the conversation they were giggling as if he’d said something witty, but Charlotte hadn’t even seen his lips move, she had noticed though the ‘harrumph’ from Erin after she’d looked over her own shoulder. She looked at Erin, then back at Logan, then back at Erin and came to a realization. “You like him don’t you.” “Don’t be stupid Charlotte, I don’t even know him.” “Wait,” she thought for a moment about something Erin had said earlier, “You’re sharing a room with him!” “Don’t get idea’s, he was there when I woke up this morning.” “And what was he wearing?” “Black pajama pants now will you stop asking questions?” “Fine, fine.” Charlotte was wearing a victorious smirk on her face, for she had just made yet another discovery about her best friend. “It wont work out even if I liked him you know, which I don’t, he’s a Vampire.” “And that means?” “We’re not compatible.” “Since when did you start following your horoscope?” “Its not horoscope fiction, it’s fact, we’re to different.” “And my name is Kirsten Dunst.” “Nice to meet you Kirsten, I’ve seen like all your movies.” A smile played across Erin’s face at her own joke. “Really funny.” “Why thank you.” she looked down at her watch, “Sorry Charlotte I gotta get back up to my room to grab my books for next period.” “Alright, watch out for sexy vampires.” “Bye.” Erin dumped the things from her lunch tray into the trash and set the plastic tray itself on a rack as she walked out the door. “Wait a second, next period is gym.” Charlotte looked quite baffled at the door her friend had just disappeared through.

Chapter Four: Logan watched Erin walk out the door, he had after all, though he’d never admit, been listening to the entire conversation. “Excuse me would you.” He smiled what he’d been told was his charm smile at the girls that had joined him un-welcomed and disappeared swiftly out the door just in time to see Erin turn the corner. He could have caught up with her but he doubted that a staircase was a proper place to make an apology. Upstairs she’d left her key card in the door, not a very smart thing to do in a school full of kids, just like it wouldn’t be in a hotel full of people. He pulled it out, put in his own and opened the door. She was sitting in her window seat, once again staring out at the rainy grounds. “Hey” he started “Hey yourself.” “Look I don’t want a repeat of this morning.” “Then maybe you shouldn’t be such a jerk.” “Well, anyway, I came up to apologize for my snarkyness earlier.” “You’re kidding right?” “No I’m not actually. I’m sorry we got off on the wrong foot. Logan Creed, Vampire.” “Erin Leigh, Angel.” They shook hands. “Did you know that you hit a kid in the head with your wing when you slipped.” “Yeah, lets not talk about that.” He could tell she was embarrassed. “Don’t worry, you fell gracefully.” “You can’t fall gracefully.” “Angels can.” “I’ll take that into consideration next time I fall then.” “We’re going to be late to class.” “It’s your first day, they’ll be lenient.” “Oh I’m not worried about me being late, just you.” “You know you’re not supposed to use your powers outside of the gym and your bedroom.” “I just run real fast.” “What else can you do?” “A little of this and a little of that.” “That makes no sense.” “Neither does ‘falling gracefully.” “True.” They walked out the door. Logan handed her the key card. “You left that in the door.” “Thanks.” “It wasn’t very smart.” “Again I will refer to ‘falling gracefully.” “Fine.” “Since we’re still on that subject. Do you realize how Spiderman-esque that whole trip was.” “Except I never wore dorky coke bottle glasses, and you aren’t exactly Mary Jane Watson.” “What’s that supposed to mean?” she raised an eyebrow. “I’ll catch you later.” he once again changed the subject. “You’re going to leave me to walk by myself.” “I was under the impression you don’t like me.” “Whatever gave you that idea?” she played innocent. “Maybe it was just something you said.” he smiled and disappeared again and she made the long trek to gym on her own. *** “The first ‘It’ pair is-” the gym teacher, Mr. Haze, scanned his students. “-Charlotte and Evan.” The two kids easiest to remember, one had red hair the other’s was lime green. They were playing a modified freeze tag game in which each of them used their powers. The players wore bracelets the registered if you were ‘tagged’ by someone else or someone else’s power, then it would automatically freeze you in your position. The school’s gym wasn’t a regular gym though, like the personal assistant in the bathroom, it was hi-tech; Producing holograms that looked and felt real. One of these virtual realms was where this game was being held, a huge forest setting with many things to hide behind. The ‘it’ pair ran around tagging other kids until everyone was frozen, the last person left unfrozen was the winner. There were 70 kids playing the game which would make it pretty tough, and rather long. “60 seconds in the safe zone, which is that red square in the center of the field. Ready? Begin.” he blew his whistle and the kids all dashed off in the other direction, leaving Charlotte and Evan counting to 75. Logan caught a brief glimpse of Erin’s wings before she disappeared into the air. He zoomed off after the other kids just as they reached 75 and a ray of light shot past his ear. That was Charlotte and her light gun. She controlled light energy, with powers like the light gun and light wings that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Evan was more grounded, he had the ability to run really fast, the green hair was just his choice. He had 8 kids frozen before they realized they’d been tagged. Logan scaled a tree and found a branch to sit on, if only just a hiding place for a moment. “Get your own hiding place.” He looked around, as far as he could tell no one was hiding there. “Down here.” he looked down and there on the branch next to him sat a small red hamster. “Are you talking to me?” it was more meant as a ’Are you talking?’ “Yes, get your own hiding place.” the hamster changed into a boy, he had short, messy, sandy blonde hair, it was more on the sandy side, and green eyes. He was wearing a red shirt, a pair of jeans and black slip-on vans. “I didn’t realize anyone else was up here.” he said honestly. “Well I guess you could stay then.” the boy shrugged. “Okay.” Logan wondered what made him change his mind so quickly. “Darius Tanner”
